Will US Elections Change Anything For Global South

(Written for the Global South Solidarity Society)

As election fervour grips the United States of America, the people of the Global South ask the question: “Will it be a Republican or a Democrat that bombs us?”

The Republican frontrunner is Donald Trump, a man who has proposed building a wall between the US and Mexico, citing the apartheid wall in Palestine as inspiration, and he has also implied that he will go to war with Zimbabwe and Uganda, to which Mugabe responded by saying Trump is the grandson of Adolf Hitler. As for Muslims, he has promised to ban ALL Muslims from entering the United States, meaning he is now a threat to peoples from the three continents of the Global South: Africa, Asia and Latin America. Trumps xenophobic views would make you think he must be Native American, but he is, as all white Americans, the descendant of European immigrants.

The frontrunner of the Democrats is Hillary Clinton, who appears to be the lesser of two evils, despite being a staunch Zionist, who has gone to great lengths to get support for her campaign from AIPAC (American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee). She played a large role in the invasion and destruction of Libya, who had the best standard of living in Africa and probably the Global South, and has been filmed celebrating the murder of Muammar Qadhafi.

Could it be possible that Trump will make Clinton look like a ‘moderate’ and that a Clinton victory would have us celebrating? Maybe that is the intention behind the rise of Trump. The last two presidents Bush and Obama came from different parties, however for the Arab World there was no difference and the ‘change’ that Obama spoke about didn’t change the policy of genocide currently being committed on the Arab peoples.
